Our Commitment

Ninoshka Travels is dedicated to empowering BIPOC women to travel solo more confidently and safely. Our goal is to build a trusted online community, provide practical travel resources and amplify the voices and experiences of BIPOC women. We focus exclusively on the needs of BIPOC solo female travellers by blending safety education, culturally relevant travel insights, and a supportive community.

Our Journey

Ninoshka Travels began when our founder, Ninoshka Pais, set out to explore the world on her own. After visiting over 30 countries solo, she couldn’t ignore the lack of representation of BIPOC women in the travel space. Knowing firsthand how life-changing solo travel can be, she created Ninoshka Travels to shift the narrative and make space for more women of colour to take up room, take the leap, and take the trip.

I didn’t expect this degree to shift my life the way it did.
Completing my Master's from @smithbusiness at @queensuniversity feels like closing a chapter that has forever changed my future.

I learned so much about myself this year, what I want, what I’m capable of, and how far I can really go when I stop doubting myself.

Feeling proud, grateful, and really excited for what’s next. 🎓✨

@osheaga was incredible, the music, the energy, the people. Montreal is one of the few cities where I feel truly safe, and overall, everyone is incredibly kind. Of course, there’s always that one guy who tries to ruin the vibe, but I refuse to let that stop me.

🍉EVERYTHING I ATE AT TASTE OF LAWRENCE🍢

Festivals can be overpriced, but if you know where to look, there are some hidden gems:

🌮 $15 Spicy Salmon Tacos: Surprisingly solid! The salmon was so flavourful, and the nori taco shell? So clever.

🍢 $5 Chicken Skewers + $4 Plantain Skewers: Honestly the best bang for your buck here. Chicken was juicy, plantain was a little sweet for me but still a fun treat.

🍉 $12.50 Watermelon Lemonade: SO needed on this hot day. Super refreshing and surprisingly filling (basically drank a whole watermelon), and they even drill the flesh so you can scoop and sip. You can also choose to add pomegranate mint or mango lemonade!

📍Taste of Lawrence is on all weekend (July 4–6) in Scarborough with food vendors, live music, and carnival games!

i honestly cannot believe how incredible @kohlipeto is, this place has all the Michelin Guide buzz and for good reason because i have truly not seen such authentic thai dishes ever since i came from thailand!

the quality of the food and the diverse range of dishes i truly felt like i was back in thailand. i cannot wait to go back, they have such an extensive menu you barely scratch the surface with just one visit!

What I ordered:
- Goong Moun 1000/10
- Pla Nueng Manao 10/10 fish was sooo soft
- Tom Yum Hotpot 10/10 drooling think about this
- Coconut ice cream 8/10
- Ruam Mit 9/10

Akagera National Park gave me a kind of peace and awe I didn’t know I needed. From lions at sunrise to a literal elephant leading us to his family… this day felt like magic.

Started the day in the chaos of Kimironko Market (10/10 sensory overload), but also the coolest experience. Also, almost ate 💩 while zipping through Eco Park. I made up for it by having the best jollof rice at a Nigerian restaurant in town.

We headed to Musanze for a full cultural experience, and it was truly something special. From fire-making and archery lessons (I got schooled by a former poacher fr) to learning how the community transitioned from poaching to tourism and crafts, I was smiling the whole day, my face started to hurt.

Also, shoutout to the sweet aunt who told me I’d make a good wife after seeing me grind millet. So much so that I was carried off to get married minutes later. 😅

My first stop was at @questioncoffee in Kigali, where I did a full tasting masterclass running on zero sleep and 100% excitement. They partner with women farmers to produce ethical, sustainable coffee and give you a hands-on crash course in how to taste it properly. Turns out I can’t tell a floral note from a fruity one to save my life. 😅

Wrapped up the night with my fave local over quesadillas at Meze Fresh.

Okay, not actually, but as part of the cultural experience at Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, I got a taste of what a traditional Rwandan wedding would look like and how royalty used to live. It was immersive and a fun way to learn about Rwandan history and traditions.

What’s even more incredible is that many people in this village used to rely on gorilla poaching to survive, but now conservation efforts are high, and they earn a living by preserving their culture and sharing it through art, storytelling, dance and handmade crafts.

I highly recommend adding it to your list if you’re heading to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze for some gorilla trekking!

Akagera National Park is a MUST, and I’ll never be the same after experiencing it. From the moment we arrived, the adventure was nothing short of incredible. 🦁

4/5 of the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros, and African buffalo), and we saw LIONS right off the bat, despite everyone telling us not to press our luck! 😱

The only one we didn’t spot was the rhino (the rarest to see), but we were lucky enough to see a cheetah, which hadn’t been spotted in the park for over a year! 😍

Beyond the Big Five, we also saw monitor lizards, eagles, hippos (fun fact: hippos kill for fun 😬), baboons, giraffes (literally a life peak for me 🦒), zebras, and even Pumbas and Bambis living in harmony. ❤️

I’m not one to get emotional, but this experience really hit me.

Seeing these incredible animals roam freely in their natural habitat was one of the most surreal moments of my life. It was beyond words to see these creatures living in harmony with one another. Akagera will change you. 🦁🌍
